Homepage

Mauricio Suarez trained as a scientist (BSc in Astrophysics from Edinburgh University) before turning to the philosophy of science (MSc and PhD from the London School of Economics). He has published on the conceptual foundations of quantum mechanics, on scientific epistemology, and on models and representation in science. He is at present developing a conception of scientific representation as inference-making, which brings scientific representation into line with the mode of representation characteristic of art, particularly painting. This conception is proving applicable across the board, to the mathematical, linguistic and diagrammatical representations of quantitative and qualitative disciplines in the natural and social sciences.
