My research focuses on the interaction of perception and cognition. At least two forms of cross-modal cognition are evident in human learning and reasoning: imitation, and the use of spatial schemas in abstract thought. Both of these processes are characterized by cross-modal mappings. Imitation involves mapping perceived actions onto felt actions, and using spatial schemas in abstract thought involves mapping non-spatial concepts onto space. My research addresses the question, “What are the constraints governing these cross-modal mapping processes?”
