Pierre Jacob is a philosopher of mind. In the early 1980's, he published two books in French on the philosophy of science: De Vienne à Cambridge, l'héritage du positivisme logique (Gallimard, 1980) and L'Empirisme logique (Minuit, 1980). In 1997, he published What minds can do (Cambridge University Press) in which he investigates two issues relevant to a naturalistic understanding of the human mind: the problem of a naturalistic account of the contents of mental representations and the problem of the efficacy of mental content in the causal explanation of an individual's behavior. He is currently involved in collaborative work with the neuropsychologist from the Lyon Institute of Cognitive Science, Marc Jeannerod, in which they try to assess the consequences of recent cognitive neuroscientific work on the visuomotor transformation for the meaning of the English verb 'to see'. Presently President of the European Society for Philosophy and Psychology and Head of Institut Jean Nicod.
