Stephen McAdams is Directeur de Recherche at the CNRS, Paris. He trained in music theory and composition, experimental psychology, acoustics and neurophysiology and received a PhD in the Hearing and Speech Sciences from Stanford University Medical School (1984). He is founder (1986) and head of the music perception and cognition team at the Ircam in Paris. He is currently working in close collaboration with the composer Roger Reynolds and the psychologist Emmanuel Bigand on problem-solving processes in music composition and on the cognitive dynamics of real-time musical experience in relation to large-scale musical formal structures.
